About
Orangutan Viajes and your tour guide
Your tour guide, Yusuf
Yusuf was born in Kumai and has lived there all his life.
After leaving school, Yusuf was forced to work in the illegal logging industry along with his brothers to help support his family.
However, Yusuf always had a passion for nature and animals, and dreamed of becoming a guide. He wanted to work for a good cause and give back to the environment while also providing opportunities for his family and friends.
Yusuf followed his heart and managed to leave the logging industry to begin working as a guide where he learned about plants, animals and conservation. Most importantly, he met orangutans and developed a deep love and respect for them. He understood them, and they understood him.
Through his job as a guide Yusuf has been able to give back to his family, his community and the environment. He has provided financial assistance for his younger brothers to attend university and supports his community by training and employing local staff.
Yusuf’s dream is to one day run his own tour guide company where he can continue to support his community and protect the beautiful rainforest that he calls home.
